He knows something is off. Aries is an observant young human. Maybe it was the calendar on the wall behind him… Maybe it was the boxy architecture of the room or the fact that he couldn’t focus on the faces in front of him no matter how hard he tried. He sensed confusion in the atmosphere. It seemed these people were waiting for him to speak, waiting for some clarity.
“My Name is Aries,” he says. “I think I’m from the future.”
The class of kids become more puzzled. Time freezes for a moment as Aries realizes there was a better way to start his speech. But, he couldn’t think of anything else to say.
“A lot has changed. I wasn’t around for it. I missed out on the info wars and the global restoration projects that followed.” He can’t help himself now. The words flow from his spirit with no filter. “How amazing it must have been to play an active part in the great awakening of humanity. What an opportunity you have before you!”
Aries attention drifts from the room full of people. His mind races with excitement.
“I can hardly believe the historical records. Such an unlikely turn of events, Completely unsane. In a world with so many people out of touch with themselves and their environment.
Human civilization racing towards their own extinction. Earth at a breaking point, the biosphere beyond the tipping point, a collision course with calamity!”
Aries lowers his hands, He didn’t realize how passionate he had become over the last few statements. He speaks more quietly. “You must be excited! Excited to take part in changing our story. Intelligently designing our future…”
“You are excited, right?” He asks seriously and waits for a response.
The room stays silent, full of blurry faces. Aries is not clear on how the kids are receiving him. They are not openly excited but are not showing signs of hostility or anger either. Nothing but silence.
Aries attempts to provoke a reaction “You have the opportunity to push for greater global awareness! The opportunity to dramatically shift humanities future!”Still nothing but silence.
So Aries tries harder. “You’re going to be living through the midst of the initial global restoration projects!”
It’s a tough crowd. Uninspired and seemingly unaware of their true power to effect positive change in the world.
“Many of you will be leading and developing these movements to restore balance to our social economic system and environment,” Aries says before losing his charisma. His voice lowers and his eyes drop. “I can only dream of such an amazing opportunity. to live a life filled with such meaning. I hope you realize how pivotal this time is, and how important you are.”
Aries hears an alarm off in the distance. He turns his head and looks at the paper time codex on the wall behind him. It depicts a date from the late monetary age.
“To wrap things up… The fate of humanity rests on your shoulders. The choices and actions you make will dictate our fate… I wish I could join you on this adventure. But, this is your journey.”
Space begins to warp around him and he knows exactly what is about to happen.
“If you succeed we might meet one day when you have grown up. Ha ha” He laughs. “I mean when you’ve grown old”
And with those last words, space-time crunches in around him and darkness becomes abundant. All of his visual perspectives vanish, but the alarm can be heard more clearly. A constant annoyance. Aries knew damn well that he was dreaming of the past again. He always finds himself ranting or preaching or trying to convince or inspire people to change their ways. He can’t help himself. Even though he knows that the people from the past were successful. As he was born in a world of abundance with peaceful people living in harmony with the natural environment. With no wars, no poverty, no borders, not even money. A world forged from the cooperation and struggle of millions of visionaries that didn’t give up or listen to the pessimistic majority.
But for Aries, the people in his dreams are standing at the fork in the road and are not sure which way to go. He get’s excited dreaming of the time when there were too many problems to solve and not enough time to solve them. A time when serious life purpose was abundant and the future was very uncertain. The survival of the human family was dependent on the so-called “radical actions” of hundreds of millions of people.
A soothing familiar voice appeared over the alarm and the constant annoyance faded. “Good morning Aries. It’s 5am… The sun is just beyond the horizon. I will open the blinds now…” the voice pauses briefly, then asking ”Any objections?”
